Field Hockey Sets School Wins Record In 6-0 Senior Day Victory Over Boston University

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell field hockey team celebrated its seniors on the field, then ensured this class will always be remembered as the group that spearheaded the winningest season in Big Red history with a 6-0 triumph over Boston University on Sunday afternoon at Marsha Dodson Field. The Big Red's seventh consecutive win was its 12th overall (12-3) and sets up a matchup between two of the hottest teams in the country with an Ivy League title and hosting rights for the inaugural conference tournament on the line when it meets Harvard this coming Saturday. The Terriers fell to 8-8 with the loss.

Senior Caroline Ramsey continued to rewrite the Cornell record book with a three-goal performance in the win, while younger sister Julia assisted on three scores to up her NCAA-leading total to 18 on the year. Grace Leahy notched her 11th goal of the campaign, with both Rease Coleman and Hanke Govaert also finding the back of the cage in the victory. Coleman added an assist, joining seniors Antonia Packard, Claire Wolfe and Elizabeth Friedberg, as well as junior Sarah Rogalski, in tallying a helper in the contest. Martha Broderick made two saves in goal over nearly 55 minutes before giving way to senior Lexie Hausheer to complete the clean sheet.

Cornell held a 14-4 edge in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corners in the victory, its first-ever over the Terriers. Cornell improved to 9-1 on the season at home with eight consecutive wins on Marsha Dodson Field, a facility record.

Cornell got on the board midway through the first when Ramsey scored her 22nd goal of the season on a rocket shot off a penalty service, then struck a little more than 11 minutes later to make it 2-0. She would complete the hat trick midway through the third quarter to push her season goals total to 24. Hanke Govaert made it 3-0 just before halftime and the Big Red never looked back. Coleman and Leahy scored in the third, allowing the Big Red to double its halftime lead and comfortably cruise to the win.
