PRINCETON, N.J. -- Cornell men's tennis'
Radu Papoe had to sweat it out on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the ITA Super Regionals. But the No. 2 seed held down the fort, defeating No. 7 seeded Daniel Milavsky in straight sets to move on to the semifinals.
Similar to his round of 16 match against Ellis Short, Papoe and Milavsky dueled throughout the first set to a 6-6 stalemate, leading to a tiebreaker. Milvasky held tough against Papoe, but the Romanian squeaked out a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker to clinch the first set, 7-6.
The momentum was on the junior's side heading into the second set. And he took full advantage, knocking out Milvasky with a 6-4 win to move into the semifinals.
Papoe will match up against No. 8 seeded Paul Inchauspe of Princeton, who knocked out fellow teammate Sebastian Sec in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) to move into the final four. The first serve is at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The winner will move on to the finals set for 4:00 p.m. and earn an automatic berth to the ITA National Fall Championships scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in San Diego, Calif.
