Big Red Sweeps Day Two, Snaps Retrievers Six Game Winning-Streak

BALTIMORE, MD - The Big Red came into day two of the Retriever Classic with a 1-1 record on the weekend. Cornell got set to square off with Merrimack and UMBC on Saturday.

The Big Red found the plate early and often in it's second matchup with Merrimack, running away with an 8-2 victory in the first game of the day. The Warriors struck first with Lanpher stealing home to put Merrimack up 1-0. Sydney Stapf sent a pitch over the fence for a homer that would send three Big Red to the plate. Maicie Levitt got in on the action in the second inning, crushing one to center field that soared over the fence to give Cornell a 4-1 lead. Kyrie Denny held up on the mound allowing just two runs on 25 batters faced (four strikeouts).

UMBC entered the matchup with Cornell on a six-game winning streak. Celia Macari broke the ice with a homer at the top of the fourth. Ella Harrod doubled the count for Cornell as an Antich single sent her home. Gabrielle Maday's effort on the mound pushed the Big Red to victory as she only allowed one run and pitched nine strikeouts. Cornell would snap UMBC's six game winning streak, 2-1.
