ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell softball team has announced that five newcomers will join the Big Red roster for the upcoming 2024 season. The five freshmen and will help Cornell in its quest for the program's first Ivy League title since 2010. 
 

Samantha Albert

Fr. • INF • 5-9 • Stamford, Conn. (Stamford HS)  
Earned all-state honors in softball as a senior at Stamford HS where she was a three-sport athlete (volleyball and basketball) … served as team captain during her senior year,… three-time all-league honoree, including as a first teamer as a junior and senior ...named to the CHSCA Senior All-Star Team in 2023.
 

Laney Freiband

Recognized as an first-team all-league pitcher as a junior at Pennsbury HS ... helped her team to three league titles (2021-23) ... was a member of the National Honors Society.
 

Matalie Greenwood

Fr. • C/3B • 5-6 • Los Banos, Calif. (Los Banos HS)  
Helped her Los Banos HS team to a pair of league titles (2021-22) ... was a three-time first-team all-league selection ... recognized as Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior ... served as team captain during her senior year.
 

Hailey Pirkey
