ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell field hockey team rallied to tie the game twice in regulation, but UAlbany earned a 3-2 shootout win in a tightly-contested matchup on Sunday afternoon at Marsha Dodson Field. The Great Danes (3-2) won their ninth straight against the Big Red (1-2) with the victory.
Caroline Ramsey scored her fifth goal of the season and freshman sister Julia scored the game-tying goal, the first of her career, late in the fourth to send the game into overtime. Freshman
Martha Broderick made four saves in goal for the Big Red, which lost 4-3 in the shootout. Cornell held a 17-11 edge in shots, including 10-6 put on goal, while UAlbany was 10-8 on corners.
Alison Smisdom posted two goals to lead the Great Danes and Delphine Le Jeune finished off the contest in the shootout with a goal to send the visitors to victory after a back-and-forth, action-packed 20 minutes of overtime. Lara Behn made eight saves and got a pair of stops in the final shootout to claim the third win of the year for the Great Danes.

The Great Danes twice scored on penalty corners with time expired in the first half, posting go-ahead goals by Smisdom in both the first and second quarters.
Caroline Ramsey got the first one back late in the half, roofing a shot on a corner for her fifth of the year. Her sister leveled the game with 3:36 remaining when Caroline's shot off a corner went wide of the goalkeeper, but after a defensive save by Smisdom redirected the shot, Julia banged it home from the left side of the cage off the rebound.
A wide open overtime left the Big Red outshooting the visitors 5-2, and 4-0 in the second overtime when the Great Danes visibly tired.
Once in the shootout, both teams converted on their first two chances. The Big Red misfired on its third and fourth opportunities, sandwiched around a make and a miss by the Great Danes. Cornell knotted the score at 3-3 with UAlbany having one final chance to win it, and Le Jeune was able to convert to give the Great Danes their ninth straight win in the series against the Big Red.
