WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- It was another strong day of competition for the Cornell men's tennis team on Saturday in the Wake Forest Invitational against Michigan State.
In doubles action, freshman Felipe Pinzon and senior Muhammad Dossani fell in a tight battle with Michigan State's Sebastian Collard and Graydon Lair (6-3), while the sophomore/junior tandem of Aman Sharma and Samuel Paquette took down Luke Baylis and Josh Portnoy (6-4).
All four Big Red also competed on the singles side. Pinzon won the first set of his Cornell career over Max Sheldon, 6-2, but could not keep the momentum, losing in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 0-6). Sharma was next up, matched up against David Saye. The sophomore kept it close over the two sets but could not pull it out, losing 6-7, 4-6.Â
Paquette also had a tightly contested match against Josh Portnoy, losing the first set, 4-6. But the senior battled back, pushing the second set to a tie-breaker after tying things up at 6-6. Despite the comeback, Portnoy won three consecutive points to take the game (7-6) and the match (4-6, 7-6(3). Meanwhile, Dossani was the lone winner on the singles side for the Big Red, taking down Reed Crocker in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
