CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Cornell men's tennis team kicked off its first day at Chowderfest on Friday with four wins in the tournament hosted by its Ivy League foe, Harvard.
The Big Red had six athletes compete in both singles and doubles. In solo action,
Felipe Pinzon started with a hard-fought three-set victory over Harvard's Valdemar Pape (6-4, 4-6, 7-6). Senior
Bradley Paliska made his fall debut for the red and white, battling tough with the Crimson's Rohan Murali, but fell in three sets (7-5, 5-7, 10-2).
Samuel Paquette dropped the first set of his match against Alan Yim, 5-7. But the junior battled back, taking the next two (6-4, 6-4) to grind out the victory. Sophomore
Aman Sharma lost in straight sets to Melchior Delloye (5-7, 4-6). But senior
Muhammad Dossani rounded out singles competition for Cornell with a straight sets victory over Tufts' Andrej Djokic (6-4, 6-4), giving the Big Red its third singles match win on the afternoon.
It was also a battle on the doubles side for Cornell on Friday, as it went 1-2.
Felipe Pinzon and
Samuel Paquette fell to No. 58 Daniel Milavsky and Cooper Williams (4-6), while
Aman Sharma and
Muhammad Dossani fell 2-6 to Valdemar Pape and Alan Yim. However,
Nathan Mao hit the court for the first time this semester in doubles with Paliska, defeating Harvard's Rohan Murali and Melchior Delloye (6-3).Â
Cornell is back in action for day two of Chowderfest at 10 a.m. as they take on the University of South Florida.Â
