ITHACA, N.Y. -- When Cornell Athletics and Physical Education put out a call for volunteers to participate in the national day of service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Big Red student-athletes, coaches and staff answered in a big way.

Devan Carrington, Associate Director of Athletics For Student Support, Development & Inclusion, led a group of 67 Big Red volunteers, including members of the gymnastics, men's squash, women's tennis and men's track and field teams, that spent the morning at the Finger Lakes ReUse Mega Center on Monday, Jan. 15. Finger Lakes ReUse is an organization committed to a just, resilient, and waste-free world.

"Volunteering not only pays homage to Dr. King's legacy, but also fosters a spirit of unity and service within our athletic family – and aligns with our A&PE priorities of winning, wellness, spirit, and leadership," said Dr. Nicki Moore, the Meakem Smith Director of Athletics and Physical Education. Moore, along with her son, Ian, joined in the work of the morning session.
