ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell Men's Polo is set to open their season at home against the Gardnertown Polo Club on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 12:00 p.m.
The Big Red is coming off of a USPA Division II Men's Polo Championship and a 13-5 record in the 2023-24 season. The squad is looking to gain another championship at the end of this season.
"I am very excited for this season," said The Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo Anthony Condo. "Especially following our win at the USPA DII National Championships last season."
Some key returners for the Big Red team are juniors Benito Jaramillo and Harrison Fredericks and senior Christian Finlay. Cornell also has talented freshmen joining the team in Dylan Tung and Max Sponer.
Last season, Jaramillo scored a team-high 13 goals against Yale, scored a game winner in the final minute of play against the Denver Polo Club and tallied over 40 goals on the year. Finlay tallied over 21 goals on the season including a personal best seven goals in one game against Harvard University. Fredericks tallied one goal against the Yale Interscholastic Polo Club
"Benito Jaramillo and Christian Finlay return from our starting squad," said Condo. Along with highly-touted freshman Max Sponer and Dylan Tung, we are looking to elevate our level of play this season, and of course the goal is to make a run at the USPA DI Championships this coming spring."
With their sights set on a run at the USPA DI Championships this spring, the Cornell Men's Polo team kicks off their season at the Oxley Equestrian Center on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. against the Gardnertown Polo Club.
