Ka Pots Sixth Goal of The Year, #22 Big Red Claims 1-0 Victory Over Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Brown Bears 1-0 of Saturday night from Berman Field. The Big Red improved to 10-2-2, while the Bears dropped to 5-7-1.

Alioune Ka registered the lone Big Red goal of the contest. Ryan Friedberg collected four key saves in the game.

Cornell and Brown went toe-to-toe in a critical Ivy League contest as the regular season winds down. Coming into the match Cornell sat at fourth in the league, while the Bears were on the outside of the top-four.

The shots-on-goal for the both teams were quality over quantity. Brown held a narrow advantage in that category out-shooting the Big Red 4 to 3, one of which sailed oast Friedberg and rung off the left-side post.

Ka's relentless effort and presence was felt within the game in numerous capacities, but none proved to be more important than his 60th-minute goal to open the scoring and give Cornell a 1-0 lead.

Brown spent the remainder of the contest searching for an equalizer, to no avail. The Bears best chance came in the 87th-minute when Harri Sproferra aimed one toward the low-right area of the net but was robbed by Friedberg to preserve the Big Red's lead and earn Cornell critical points in the Ivy League standings. With the win, Friedberg improved to 10-2-2 on the year, and earned his seventh shutout of the season.

"Tonight was a hard-fought win. Credit to Brown they were more assertive than us in the first and caused us some problems. Ryan made a couple of key stops in goal to keep the game tied at the half. The second half was better from us. We were more lively on both sides of the ball and managed to capitalize on that with a tremendous strike from Ali", John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer mentioned.
