Box Score PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Chestnut Hill sprint football team (2-1) defeated Cornell (1-2) on Saturday in Philadelphia 27-9.
Lawrence Howard led the scoring drive for the Griffins with two touchdowns on the night. Kyree Griffin and Anthony Cancellare each recorded one touchdown apiece as well.
Chestnut Hill's starting quarterback, Cancellare, went 14-for-22 for 168 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Howard and Xavier Limehous each rushed for over 100 yards, netting 138 and 132 respectively. Griffin led the team in receiving with five receptions for 79 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, the team had one interception and one forced fumble.
On the Big Red's side, the first points came in the second quarter when Stephen Cisz made a 26 yard field goal. Cornell's sole touchdown came from the defense as Zach Glenn returned a fumble for 78 yards to the endzone for six points.
The Big Red's offense was led by quarterback Max Spero. Spero went 9-for-23 for 100 yards and one interception. Evan Nicholas led the team in rushing with 15 attempts and a net 31 yards. Colin Boyle led the Big Red in receiving with two receptions for 51 yards.
The defensive side of the ball was the bright spot for Cornell in this match-up. The Big Red recorded five tackles for loss, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries, one of which led to a 78 yard return to the endzone by Glenn.
Chestnut Hill outscored Cornell 27-3 in the first half, but with some halftime adjustments, the Big Red was able to limit the Griffins offense in the second half while outscoring them 6-0.
Cornell will look to regroup before coming back to Ithaca to face off against the University of Pennsylvania on October 12th at 4:00 p.m.
