#16 Men's Soccer Gears Up For Its First Ivy League Tournament Appearance

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The no. 16-ranked Cornell men's soccer team gets set to for the Ivy League Tournament. The semifinal match is scheduled for Friday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m. at Rivers Field against the Princeton Tigers. This will be the first all-time appearance for the Big Red in the Ivy League Tournament since its inception in 2023.

"Since our last game, our focus has shifted to preparing for the big challenge ahead on Friday against Princeton. They're a well-coached team with talent across the field, so it promises to be an exciting match", John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer mentioned.

Ivy League Awards
Alex Harris becomes the first Cornellian to be named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year. Freshman defender Aidan Martin was named Ivy League Rookie of The Year, giving Cornell the award for the third consecutive season.

"Alex's ability to follow up his impressive 12-goal freshman season with 16 goals this year speaks volumes, and his accomplishments truly merit the recognition he's receiving. Connor Miller has been instrumental in Alex's success, so it's fantastic to see the league's coaches also acknowledge his impact by voting him in unanimously", John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer mentioned. "Aidan's regular season ended on a high note, receiving the Rookie of the Year award—a wonderful moment for him and our program", Smith added.

Eight members of the Big Red were honored with All-Ivy recognitions. Harris, Connor MillerRyan FriedbergAndrew Johnson, and Alioune Ka were named on the first-team. A pair of Big Red rookies, Martin and Justin Melly, were deemed honorable-mention. Sam Latona was recognized as Cornell's Academic All-Ivy recipient.

"Securing five players on the First Team in such a competitive league is a tremendous tribute to the group's quality. We're thrilled to see Ryan, Alioune, and Andrew joining Connor and Alex on the First Team. It's also incredibly exciting to have two of our freshmen, Aidan and Justin, earn All-Ivy consideration", Smith concluded with.

Senior Day Recap
The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Columbia Lions 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field on senior night. The Big Red concluded its regular season with a 12-2-2 record.

Alex Harris (two), Danny Lokko, and Connor Miller registered Big Red goals in the game. Lokko, Daniel Samways (two), Miller, Harris, Giorgos DiakosAlioune Ka, and Westin Carnevale were credited with assists in the game.

Cornell vs The Field in 2024
vs Princeton
The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Princeton Tigers 1-0 on a Saturday afternoon at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. The Big Red improved to 8-1-2, while the Tigers dropped to 5-4 on the year.

Giorgos Diakos registered the lone goal of the contest in the 76th-minute. The game-winning goal was assisted by Connor Miller.

vs Penn
The no. 16-ranked Cornell men's soccer team fell to the no. 12-ranked University of Pennsylvania Quakers 3-2 on a Sunday afternoon at Berman Field. The Big Red dropped to 9-2-2, while the Quakers improved to 10-2-1.

Alex Harris (penalty-kick) and Alioune Ka registered the Big Red goals in the contest. Connor Miller was credited with the assist.

vs Brown
The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Brown Bears 1-0 on a Saturday night from Berman Field. The Big Red improved to 10-2-2, while the Bears dropped to 5-7-1.

Alioune Ka registered the lone Big Red goal of the contest. Ryan Friedberg collected four key saves in the game.

Big Red Players To Watch
Alex Harris - The sophomore forward stands at 36 points on 16 goals and five  assists. The stand-out Cornellian produced his first-career hat-trick against Dartmouth, ushering the Big Red to a 3-0 victory. Harris has registered 10 multi-point games on the year and has been named Ivy League Offensive Player of The Week on four occasions.

Alioune Ka - Ka has been a reliable goal-scorer for the Big Red in the early season. He continues to be shifty in the offensive zone, consistently finding goals in timely situations. He currently holds 15 points on the year on six goals and three assists.

Connor Miller - Miller has been a catalyst for the Big Red. He has registered 17 points coming on four goals and nine assists. Miller sets up his teammates for timely goals and has a knack for the moment, owning two game-winners for Cornell.

Ryan Friedberg - Friedberg has played every minute in net for the Big Red this season. He has posted a 12-2-2 record to go along with eight shutouts. He has doubled his previous season-high in shutouts. Friedberg backs up a strong back-line with poise and focus. He has faced 130 shots this season, allowing just 14 to get by him (.741).
