ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 9-ranked Cornell men's squash team will begin its 2024-25 campaign this weekend when it welcomes No. 14-ranked Western and No. 11-ranked Williams to the Belkin Squash Courts.

Cornell will begin its season with Western for the second time in three years on Friday, Nov. 22. Matches are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. The match with Williams will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24, at noon. Both matches will be streamed live on Stretch Internet.

Coming off an impressive 11-7 campaign last year, the Big Red will seek to fill the No. 1 spot on its ladder that Veer Chotrani, who finished 16-0 last season, assumed since the 2019-20 campaign. Senior Aaron Liang (10-8) went 5-0 at the No. 1 position last season, claiming each match in straight games.

Sophomore Syan Singh (13-7) and seniors Shreemann Raghavan (11-7) and Arnaav Sareen (10-3) were the other three Big Red players who won at least 10 matches a year ago.

Singh enters this weekend riding a seven-match win streak dating back to Feb. 29, highlighted by winning the Molloy North bracket at the 2024 CSA National Individual Championships in Philadelphia. Raghavan has won his last four matches, with the first two victories coming in five games.

SCOUTING WESTERN
No. 14-ranked Western enters this weekend with a 1-2 overall record. Last weekend, it defeated No. 17-ranked MIT 6-3 to conclude its three-match road trip in suburban Boston. It opened the trip with a 6-3 loss to No. 10-ranked Tufts on Friday before falling to No. 5-ranked Harvard, 8-1, on Saturday.

Dylan Deverill (No. 1), Daniel Deverill (No. 2), Antonio Mendes (No. 5), and Tyson Schille (No. 9) lead the Mustangs with two wins apiece.

Schille recorded the Mustangs' lone victory against Harvard, claiming his match over Zach Baskir in straight games.

Despite Western's 30-17 lead in the series, Cornell has won the last three matches against the Mustangs, which included a 7-2 victory in the consolation semifinals of last year's Potter Cup at the CSA National Collegiate Team Championships in Philadelphia.

SCOUTING WILLIAMS
Williams will also open its 2024-25 season this weekend. It will face Western on Saturday at the Belkin Squash Courts before facing Cornell on Sunday.

The Ephs are coming off a 15-8 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play last season.

Cornell defeated Williams, 8-1, in the season-opening match for both programs. Liang, Sareen, Rohan Iyer, and Tanay Punjabi all registered straight-game victories for the Big Red.

The Big Red has an 18-15 advantage in the all-time series against Williams and has won each of the last 12 matches. Cornell is 10-1 all-time at home against the Ephs, claiming the last seven home matches by a combined score of 60-3.
