ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 8-ranked Cornell women's squash team (0-1) fell to No. 5-ranked Stanford (1-0), 7-2, in the Big Red's season-opening match at the Belkin Squash Courts on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore
Xin Ying Yee (No. 1) and freshman
Sabine Ball (No. 7) each won their respective matches in four games to record the pair of wins for the Big Red.
Ying overcame dropping the opening game 11-5, posting three straight victories of 11-5, 11-7 and 11-2. Ball won a marathon first game, 17-15, before taking a 2-0 lead with an 11-9 victory in the second game. After falling in the third set, 12-10, Ball cruised to an 11-4 win in the fourth game.
Junior
Alysa Ali battled with Amelie Haworth at the No. 4 position, trading victories in the first four games, 10-12, 12-10, 6-11, 11-7, before falling in the final game, 11-7.
Sophomore
Maya Voloshin (No. 6) and freshman
Kahjin Yap (No. 9) both lost in four games.
