Cornell Set for Senior Night and Final Game of the Season Against Mansfield

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell sprint football team is celebrating its 14 seniors in its final game of the season on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. as they take on Mansfield on Schoellkopf field.

The 2024 senior class consists of captains Evan Nicholas Colin Boyle and Zach Glenn as well as Charles Snajdr-Trinch, Noah Wilson, Kevin Lopez, Ben Davis, William Falb, Carson Kotecki, Josh Kim, Quinton Pezzino, Luke Varayanis, Elijah Biddlecom and Sawyer Tierney.

The Big Red are entering this game 2-4 after dropping its last contest to Army West Point 55-0. 

Cornell's offense struggled to get production against Army as the starting quarterback, Evan Nicholas, went 12-for-32 for 87 yards and four sacks. Nicholas led the Big Red in rushing with 14 carries for a net 109 yards and Leo Madera Castellanos led the team in receiving with four carries for 15 yards. Cornell's defense had one sack and two tackles for loss.

The Mountaineers are coming into this matchup 2-5 after defeating Molloy 64-21 in its last contest. 

Quarterback Cahsid Raymond closed out his final home game going 7-11 for 205 yards four touchdowns and one interception through the air, nine carries for 82 yards on the ground, one reception for 28 yards and a punt return of 45 yards. Terrance Quaker had 8 rushes for 71 yards and a touchdown to go with being the lead receiver collecting 4 receptions for 57 yards and a score.Ian Mapp had 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Daniel Gibson and Antonio Green each had an interception.

Cornell and Mansfield have met 18 times since their first game in 2008. The Big Red currently lead the series 14-4, but is on a three-game losing streak against the Mountaineers.  The Big Red averages 26.89 points against Mansfield over its 18 meetings thus far.

The last time these two teams met, Mansfield won 20-7. The Big Red  trimmed a 14-point deficit to seven in the second half against Mansfield but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 20-7 to the Mounties at Kyle Van Norman Field. Returning linebacker Mike Mosier led Cornell's defense with eight tackles, including 1.5 for a loss of yards. Mansfield quarterback Cahsid Raymond finished with 110 yards rushing and scored a three-yard touchdown to open the scoring early in the second quarter. He went 11-of-26 through the air for 127 yards and threw a 14-yard touchdown to tailback Terrance Quaker just before halftime.

Cornell and Mansfield will face off once again, this year on Schoellkopf field for the Big Red's senior night and final game of the season on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
