Harvard Recap
The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Harvard Crimson 3-0 at Berman Field on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Cornell clinched a spot in the Ivy League tournament and improved to 11-2-2.
Alex Harris and
Daniel Samways registered the Big Red goals in the game.
Connor Miller,
Liam May, and Samways were credited with helpers in the contest.
Ryan Friedberg registered two saves in the gave and earned his eighth shutout of the season.
The Last Time Out - vs Columbia
The Cornell men's soccer team tied 0-0 with Columbia from Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.
Standout freshman
Alex Harris peppered Columbia's senior goalkeeper Michael Collodi with shots in the opening half, managing to get three on the net. Collodi would stand tall, stopping all three shot-attempts. One yellow card was assesed to each squad in the half, with one going to
Kisa Kiingi (Cornell) and the other going to Jackson Oever (Columbia).
Both teams attempted six shots in the opening frame, but Harris' three were the only to reach the net for either team.
In the 66th-minute,
Balazs Feher found Harris cutting across the middle of the box for what supposedly would be the opening tally of the game, but the goal was rescinded due to an offside.
In the 89th-minute the Big Red tacked on another goal that would be called back due to another offsides infraction.
Big Red Players To Watch
Alex Harris - The sophomore forward stands at 32 points on 14 goals and four assists. The stand-out Cornellian produced his first-career hat-trick against Dartmouth, ushering the Big Red to a 3-0 victory. Harris has registered seven multi-point games on the year and has been named Ivy League Offensive Player of The Week on three occasions.
Alioune Ka - Ka has been a reliable goal-scorer for the Big Red in the early season. He continues to be shifty in the offensive zone, consistently finding goals in timely situations. He currently holds 14 points on the year on six goals and two assists.
Connor Miller - Miller has been a catalyst for the Big Red. He has registered 13 points coming on three goals and seven assists. Miller sets up his teammates for timely goals and has a knack for the moment, owning two game-winners for Cornell.
Ryan Friedberg - Friedberg has played every minute in net for the Big Red so far this season. He has posted a 11-2-2 record to go along with eight shutouts. Through 15 games, he has already doubled his previous season-high in shutouts. Friedberg backs up a strong back-line with poise and focus. He has faced 126 shots this season, allowing just 13 to get by him (.750).
