Cornell Drops Season Ending Barn-Burner to Mansfield 48-35

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell sprint football lost its final game of the season to Mansfield 48-35 and ended its season 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the CSFL North Division. 

Evan Nicholas led the Big Red going 12-for-26 for 115 yards, two touchdowns, one sack and one interception. Nicholas led the team in rushing with 23 attempts for 164 yards. Colin Boyle led the team in receiving with five receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Dan O'Malley had one interception and one forced fumble. Ian Applegate had one forced fumble and two pass breakups.

Marcus Quaker and Cahsid Raymond each took snaps at quarterback for Mansfield. Quaker went 4-for-7 for 105 yards and Raymond went 3-for-10 for 35 yards and one interception. Terrance Quaker led the team in rushing with 11 attempts for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Marcus Quaker scored four touchdowns on 11 attempts for 116 yards. Raymond led the team in receiving with three catches for 81 yards.

This marks the end of the 2024-25 Cornell sprint football season.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Cornell opened up the first quarter with a touchdown on its opening drive. Evan Nicholas made a 15-yard pass to Colin Boyle in the endzone. Stephen Cisz made the extra point putting Cornell up 7-0 early.

  • Mansfield's Marcus Quaker rushed to the Manfield one-yard line and just as he was about to score, Ian Applegate forced a fumble and Nicholas recovered it for a touchback for the Big Red.

SECOND QUARTER

  • With 9:56 left in the second quarter, Mansfield's Marcus Quaker rushed for a touchdown and Nolan Zona's PAT was good to tie the game at 7-7.

  • Cornell immediately answered with a touchdown drive of its own with another Nicholas to Boyle combination for a 25-yard touchdown and Cisz made the PAT. Cornell went up 14-7.

  • Mansfield responded before halftime with a second Marcus Quaker rushing touchdown, this time for 11 yards. Zona made the kick tying the game at 14.

  • Cisz attempted a 45-yard field goal and was unsuccessful, ending the first half in a 14-14 draw.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Terrance Quaker opened up the second half with a 39-yard rushing touchdown on Mansfield's opening drive. Zona made the extra point. Mansfield took the lead 21-14.

  • With 10:04 left in the third, Marcus Quaker rushed for a 13-yard touchdown. Zona made the extra point, putting Mansfield up 28-14.

  • With 1:57 left in the third quarter, Cahsid Raymond scored a rushing touchdown for Mansfield to put them up 34-14. Cornell's Zach Glenn blocked the extra point attempt by Zona.

  • With 20 seconds left in the third quarter, Raymond fumbled the ball and Cornell recovered it. Nicholas ended the quarter with a 28-yard pass to Leo Madera at the Mansfield four-yard line.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Nicholas started the fourth quarter scoring off with a three-yard rushing touchdown for Cornell. Cisz's extra point was good. Mansfield still has the lead 34-21.

  • Mansfield answered with a Terrance Quaker 51-yard rushing touchdown and a Marcus Quaker catch for two, extending Mansfield's lead to 42-21.

  • With 11:52 left, Dan O'Malley intercepted Raymonds pass to give Cornell possession immediately after its punt. Cornell went four and out.

  • Mansfield's Marcus Quaker scored on the next drive, extending its lead to 48-21. Mountaineers went for two and were unsuccessful.

  • Cornell answered as Nicholas rushed 54 yards for a touchdown. The defense had an illegal formation on the extra point try causing a flag. The Big Red took advantage and Kruz Meier rushed for a two-point conversion to bring Cornell closer with a score of 48-29. 

  • With 1:34 left in the game, Kruz Meier scored a seven-yard rushing touchdown. Cornell went for two, but was unsuccessful making the score 35-48.
