PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Cornell's seventh inning two-run homer by junior Emma Antich cut the Pennsylvania lead to four, but the Quakers managed to close out the inning and claim the 7-3 victory at Penn Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Red fell to 3-14 on the season, 1-2 in conference play. Penn improved to 7-12, 2-1 in the Ivy.Â
Penn had a strong first inning, posting three runs on three hits after holding Cornell to no hits in the top of the inning. Cornell found its answer with a sac-fly from Kate Calloway to score Syndey Stapf. The Big Red kept the Penn offense at bay until the bottom of the third, when the Quakers tacked on two more runs, followed by another in the fourth inning to build the teams lead to 6-1.
Penn added one more the bottom of the sixth off a solo home run. Emma Antich tied to spark the rally with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, but the Quakers. held on to close out the win.
Lauren Holt, Emma Antich, Lily Travieso, and Sydney Stapf all posted at least one hit in the contest.
Kyrie Denny and Madalyn Covelli each recorded two strikeouts apeice, splitting time at the mound alongside Maxine McCraw.
