#33 Men's Tennis Sweeps Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The No. 33-ranked Cornell men's tennis team (17-6, 4-2 Ivy) cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Brown Bears (5-18, 0-5 Ivy) on Saturday afternoon from the Pizzitola Sports Center. With the win, Cornell has now won 13 straight matches against the Bears.

Cornell had to work for the point in doubles play. Brown's Alexander Bravo and Alex Finkelstein took a 6-2 victory over Petar Teodorovic and Eric Verdes from the No. 2 spot, putting the Bears a win away from taking the first point. The Big Red would counter immediately from the No. 1 spot with Nathan Mao and Adit Sinha winning its second match in Ivy Play in a 7-5 decision against Chun Lam and Noah Hernandez. And with the ride of momentum, Cornell's No. 3 duo of RaduPapoe and Samuel Paquette closed out the point in a 6-4 win over James Liam and Sam Feldman. The victory for Papoe and Paquette is its fourth in the last six matches.

The Big Red continued its roll early in singles with Papoe (No. 1 singles) cruising to his sixth win in the last seven matches in a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Noah Hernandez and Paquette earning his third consecutive victory with a sweep of James Lian from the No. 5 spot. With one point needed to win the match, the focus switched to the No. 6 battle between Noah Eisenberg and Alex Koong. Eisenberg, who made his first singles appearance since Cornell's 7-0 sweep of Penn State on March 17th, pushed his record to 6-0 on the spring with a 7-5, 6-3 sweep to clinch the match for Cornell.

Cornell did end up playing the rest of the singles matches out. Starting at No. 3 singles, freshman Felipe Pinzon grabbed his season-best 12th spring win over Chun Lam (6-2, 7-6 (7-5)). Going over to the No. 4 position, junior Aman Sharma made his first appearance in the lineup since Cornell's win over Quinnipiac on March 17. Despite over a month out of the lineup, Sharma shook off a tough 6-1 loss in the opening set to flip the script and earn a three-set win over Alexander Bravo. The final match of the day was in the No. 2 spot between Sinha and Alex Finkelstein. Sinha, who suffered a tough three-set decision to Harvard's Henry Von Der Schulenberg on April 13, took down Finkelstein in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). The win is Sinha's third in conference action.
