LOS OSOS, Ca. — The Cornell women's polo team mounted a four-goal comeback but fell short in its Division II National Intercollegiate playoff game on Thursday night against Grossmont College.
The Big Red trailed 5-1 and tied the game with just over a minute left in the fourth chukker. Grossmont scored with time expiring to win 6-5.
Isabelle Braden, Charlotte Book and Lara Chong scored goals for the Big Red. Cornell scored three points in the final chukker to tie the contest.
"I am so very proud of my women's team for their performance today and all season, despite our coming up just short when the clock read triple zeros," Anthony Condo, the Peter B. Orthwein '68 Head Coach of Polo, said. "To have been able to tie the game at 5 with just over a minute remaining after being down by four goals (5 – 1) was nothing short of amazing. Our congratulations to Grossmont for sinking the game-winning penalty 2 with time expiring to advance."
Cornell faces the University of Wisconsin in the consolation game at 7 p.m. EST on Friday at the Central Coast Polo Club.
