WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The Cornell men's heavyweight rowing program concluded racing on the third and final day of the 2024 IRA National Championship on Mercer Lake on Sunday morning with all three of its varsity eight entries participating in their respective finals races.

Upon the conclusion of all races on Sunday, Cornell finished in 12th place for a second consecutive year behind its 161 points.

Washington earned the Ten Eyck Trophy for the first time since 2021 with its 288 points. The Huskies have won 14 of the last 17 titles, dating back to 2007, and was its 18th overall IRA National Championship title, three more than the second-place holder Wisconsin (15).

In Cornell's first race of the day, the Big Red's 1V8+ crew placed first in the 'C' Final where it registered a wire-to-wire victory with a time of 5:42.669, defeating its Ivy League rival Columbia by 2.807 seconds (5:45.476). The first-place finish generated 60 of Cornell's 161 points for the Ten Eyck Trophy.

The Big Red used a strong push at the start to log a 1:23.730 time in the opening 500 meters before further extending its lead over the remaining five crews as the race progressed.

Cornell's 3V8+ crew launched in the next event after the 1V8+, where it posted a fourth-place finish in the 'B' Final. The Big Red's time of 5:56.939 was 9.5 seconds behind first-place finishing Yale (5:47.439). Syracuse (5:48.442) and Boston University (5:53.922) finished in second and third place.

The final race of the day for the heavyweights came in the 2V8+ 'B' Final, where Cornell finished in fifth place after its time of 5:51.692. Syracuse led the entire 2000-meter race, registering a time of 5:42.332, which was 2.024 seconds ahead of Yale (5:44.356).
