PARIS, France -- Taylor Knibb '20 used a standout morning on the bike to climb to 19th place in the final women's triathlon standings on Wednesday morning at the 2024 Olympic Games. Her time of 1:58.37 was more than three minutes out of medal contention.
Knibb found herself backed up to 33rd place among the 55 competitors after the swim on the Seine River and fell to 38th early in the bike after the first transition. She led the second group on the bike and had a number of top five splits in the bike segment as she climbed back to within 11th overall and within 1:06 of the lead, but settled back to her final spot of 19th during the run.
The former Big Red cross country, track and field and swimming letter winner finished 16th at the 2021 Games in Tokyo, but used that experience to help win the United States a silver medal in the mixed relay event. If she is named to compete in the event, that would be on Monday, August 5.
