PRINCETON, N.J. -- Cornell football nears its first season under the 28th Roger J. Weiss '61Â Head Coach of Cornell Football,
Dan Swanstrom, but not before the announcement of the 2024 Ivy League Preseason Media Poll. The Big Red was picked seventh overall, sandwiched between Brown and Columbia. The team will look to pull off a run like in 2022, when the team proved experts wrong after being picked eighth, only to finish sixth.
Yale (114 points, 6 first-place votes) and Harvard (108 points, seven first-place votes) grabbed the top two spots when the ballots were counted up, but two other schools earned at least one first-place vote. Penn came third (88 points, two first-place votes) with Princeton (80 points, one first-place vote) and Dartmouth (80 points) close in tow. Brown slotted in at sixth place (56 points) with Cornell (26 points) and Columbia (24 points) rounding out the field. Two media members from each of the eight schools voted.
Cornell boasted four preseason All-Ivy honorees that earned six spots on the Phil Steele list. The four Big Red named to the list was headlined by senior quarterback,Â
Jameson Wang, who was named to the first team. Joining Wang with offensive recognition wasÂ
Davon Kiser, who wrapped up a second-team honor as a wide receiver. Kiser was also named to the second team on special teams, as the punt returner and kick returner. Senior offense linemanÂ
Jackson Bradley also earned recognition on the second team. On defense, senior linebackerÂ
Luke Banbury was named to the second team.
The quartet and the rest of the Big Red kick off the first Swanstrom-era season on Saturday, September 21 when the team takes on Colgate in the 2024 season opener. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be streamed live via ESPN+.
