Dake'13 Falls To Takatani In Semis, Set To Wrestle In Bronze Medal Match

PARIS, France - Kyle Dake '13 fell to Daichi Takatani (Japan) in a 20-12 high-scoring affair in the 74 kilogram Olympic Wrestling semifinals on Friday afternoon. Dake will return to the mat tomorrow for the bronze medal bout against the winner of repechage two.

Dake vs Montero Chirinos, Emami
Dake outscored his session one opponents, Anthony Montero Chirinos (Venezuala) and Younes Emami (Iran), 21-1.

In his match against Montero Chirinos, Dake rattled off five unanswered take downs in the first round to secure a 10-0 technical fall victory. In match two, Dake secured a fall in the second period over Emami after taking a 11-1 lead.

Dake vs Takatani
Dake wasted no time on the attack against Takani, executing the first take down of the match. Takatani would turn the tide from that point, attempting a significant amount of shots on Dake. At the end of the first period, Takatani managed a 9-4 lead over Dake, putting Dake in an uncommon deficit.

Early in the second period, Dake executed a critical series of take downs to draw the score within striking distance. Takatani would find himself in control of Dake again when he maneuvered him into a leg-lace (wrestler gains control of opponents legs and attempts to turn him for points. Takatani made due of the attempt, successfully finishing three turns to widen his advantage.

In a late-attempt to move ahead in the score, Dake gained control of Takatani on the ground, which led to a sequence of exposures that ultimately gained Takatani four points to Dake's two. This would extend Dake's deficit to an insurmountable margin, ushering Takatani to an Olympic upset over Dake.

Bronze Medal Bout
Dake will wrestle for his second consecutive Olympic bronze tomorrow against the winner of Geandry Garzon (Cuba) and Khetag Tsabolov (Serbia). Dake has not faced either of the potential bronze-medal opponents in his career.
