Yale Recap
The Cornell men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Yale Bulldogs on Saturday night at Reese Stadium in the Ivy League opener. The Big Red dropped its first game of the season, moving to 5-1-2, while the Bulldogs improved to 3-4-1 overall.
The first-half of the match was played at a defensive pace, with each team managing just one shot-on-goal each.
Alex Harris was active in the first-half owning three of the six Big Red shots including the lone attempt that tested Yale net-minder Chris Edwards.
After a first-half with zero corner kicks between both teams, Yale managed to draw six in the second-half with all coming in a span of 15 minutes.
The last of those six corner-kicks would serve as a detriment to the Big Red as it would lead to a penalty-kick for a hand-ball infraction by Lokko.
Yale preseason All-American TJ Presthus made the penalty-kick count when he snuck it past Friedberg in the top-corner of the net to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.
The Last Time Out - vs Binghamton
Last season, the Cornell men's soccer team played Binghamton to a stunning 2-1 victory on from Bearcats Sports Complex.
Senior defender
Connor Drought and freshman mid-fielder
Connor Miller put in their first goals of the season.
Alex Harris and
Balazs Feher extended their point-streaks to three games, helping on the Big Red goals.
Drought opened up the scoring in the 27th-minute, putting the Big Red in front mid-way through the first half. Cornell put heavy offensive pressure on the Bearcats in that half, winning the shots on goal advantage 5-0.
Binghamton answered early in the second half, when Cailen Thomas booted in a Bearcat goal from Jack Green, knotting the game at 1-1.
As time wound down, both squads searched for the right moment to strike on a go-ahead-goal. Around the 10-minute mark, Anthony Lazaridis of the Bearcats committed a crucial red card offense which would cause Binghamton to play a man-down.
Ivy League points leader Harris and Drought took advantage as they found Miller cutting across the box for the game-winning-goal.
