Men’s ITA All-American Championships Results

TULSA, OK — Cornell men's tennis seniors, Radu Papoe and Adit Sinha, both took to the courts in the ITA Men's Singles All-American Championships from September 21-29.

The singles draw size was as follows; 128 athletes competed in the pre-qualifying round, 64 athletes including Sinha competed in the qualifying round and 64 athletes including both Sinha and Papoe competed in the main draw. 

Sinha was the first of the Cornellians to take the court as he began competition in the round of 64 qualifying singles draw. The New Jersey native started off with a victory as he defeated Luca Pow of Wake Forest University in three sets. The first set was a back and forth battle going 7-6 with a tiebreaker of 7-5 giving Sinha the 1-0 lead. Set two swayed in favor of Pow 6-3 tying it up and taking it to a set three. In the third set Sinha took the victory 6-4, taking the match two sets to one and moving on to the qualifying round of 32. 

In the next round Sinha was faced with UCLA's Rudy Quan, who was ranked 75th in the ITA national rankings. Quan was able to defeat Sinha in two straight sets. The first set had a score of 7-5 and the second set was scored 6-0. 

Despite Sinha losing to Quan, he was given a bid to the main draw based on his ITA national ranking of 54th as of August 2024. In the main draw, Sinha faced Oliver Tarvet from the University of San Diego, who was ranked 3rd in the ITA national rankings. Tarvet defeated Sinha in two sets, but the Cornellian didn't go out without tacking on a few points first. The first set went 6-1 and the second was scored 6-2, knocking out Sinha from the championships. Tarvet went on to win the championship tournament. 

Ranked 6th in the ITA  men's singles national rankings as of August 2024, Papoe also represented Cornell at the ITA All-American Championships. Papoe began competition directly in the main draw where he was matched up against Pedro Vives of Texas Christian University, ranked 37th in the ITA national rankings. Vives defeated Papoe in two straight sets with set one going 6-1 and set two being scored 6-0, knocking Papoe out of the championships in an early exit.
