ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 9-ranked Cornell men's squash team (5-1) opens a three-match road trip on Wednesday afternoon when it travels to Philadelphia for a contest against No. 7-ranked Drexel (5-3).
First matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. from the Klein & Specter Squash Center.
WEEKEND REWIND
Cornell will look to return to its winning ways after it fell to No. 6-ranked Harvard, 7-2, at the Belkin Squash Courts on Sunday afternoon, snapping the Big Red's season-opening five-match win streak.
The Big Red opened its two-match weekend with a 6-3 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday, highlighted by three-game victories by seniors
Arnaav Sareen (No. 1) and
Shreemann Raghavan (No. 7) and freshman
Youssef Sarhan (No. 4).
Raghavan, who moved up to the No. 6 position for his match against Harvard, and junior
Jeh Pandole (No. 9) were the lone Big Red players to sweep their competition on the weekend. Pandole's pair of victories were his first two career wins in Ivy League competition.
SCOUTING DREXEL
Drexel enters Wednesday's match with a 5-3 overall record and ranked No. 7 in the Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) rankings. The Dragons snapped their modest two-match losing streak on Sunday after defeating the University of Rochester, 9-0, in their first match since falling to Yale, 7-2, on Dec. 8.
Fritiof Jacobsson and Sean Murphy both have 5-2 records on the season, serving as one of four Dragons players with five wins on the season, joined by Tavneet Mundra (5-0) and Shomari Wiltshire (5-1). Thiago Cabrejos and Hussain Alzaatari enter Wednesday's match undefeated with identical 4-0 records.
SERIES HISTORY WITH DREXEL
Cornell enters Wednesday match against Drexel with a 5-8 record, dating back to the first meeting between the programs on Nov. 23, 2013.
The Big Red snapped a four-match losing streak to the Dragons, posting a 5-4 victory over Drexel in its last meeting on Jan. 13, 2024, at the Belkin Squash Courts. It was Cornell's first win over Drexel since also winning by a 5-4 score in Ithaca on Jan. 18, 2019.
Veer Chotrani posted a three-game victory over Nicolas Serna, 11-8, 11-7, 15-13, at the No. 1 position for Cornell.
Spencer Yager (No. 4),
Rohan Iyer (No. 5),
Tanay Punjabi (No. 8), and
Arnav Tevatia (No. 9) also registered victories for Cornell in the victory. Tevatia won his match in four games while the other three Big Red triumphs came in five games.
With a win on Wednesday, Cornell will have its first win streak over Drexel since winning the first three matches against the Dragons (Nov. 23, 2013 - Feb. 22, 2015).
