ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's tennis is back in action after a two-month hiatus for its 2025 season opening weekend. The Big Red will begin the year with two dual matches on the road on Friday, Jan. 17 at the University of Tulsa and on Sunday, Jan. 19 at the University of Oklahoma.

Cornell men's tennis hosted its first home event of the year from Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3 and notched 11 wins between singles and doubles competition over the three days.
In the day one singles event Cornell went 4-0. Senior Jack McCarthy defeated Davd Lindsay of Penn State 6-3, 7-5. Sophomore Eric Verdes defeated Charl Morgan from Penn State 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Felipe Pinzon defeated Shrikeshav Murugesan from Penn State 6-2, 6-3 and lastly junior Noah Eisenberg defeated Nolan Ranger from Penn State 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
The Big Red then moved on to day one doubles competition where it went 1-1. McCarthy and Eisenberg defeated Ranger and Denys Forgaci of Penn State 9-8 (7-4) and senior Maxwell Moadel and Pinzon lost to Murugesan and Alexander Sterin from Penn State 8-4.
In the singles competition on day two, Cornell went 3-1. Verdes defeated Reiya Hattori from Penn State 7-5, 6-1, Pinzon defeated Morgan 6-2, 6-2, Eisenberg defeated Murugesan 7-6(4) and Moadel lost to Sterin 6-2,6-1.
On the doubles side of day two, Cornell went 1-1. McCarthy and Eisenberg lost to Murugesan and Sterin 8-5 and then defeated Sam Bossem and Morgan 8-6.
On day three of singles competition, the Big Red went 2-2. Verdes defeated Aidan Reilly from Yale 6-4, 6-3, Pinzon defeated Dylan Tsoi from Yale 6-3, 6-4, Eisenberg lost to Hattori 6-0,6-0, and Moadel lost to Murugesan 6-2, 6-1 to finish off the weekend.

University of Tulsa Notes
Friday's match-up will be the third all-time meeting between Cornell and the University of Tulsa since their first match-up in 2019. The Big Red and the Golden Hurricanes are currently 1-1. The University of Oklahoma won the first match-up on February 2, 2019 4-3 and Cornell won the most recent match-up on February 23, 2020 4-2 at home.

Sunday's match-up will be the fifth all-time meeting between Cornell and the University of Oklahoma since they first met in 2017. The Sooners lead the Big Red 3-1 and are on a three-match winning streak. The Big Red's last win came on March 12, 2017 in the teams first match-up. The last time these teams faced off, the University of Oklahoma won 4-3 at home.
