ITHACA, N.Y. — Last week on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, staff members, coaches, and student-athletes from numerous Cornell athletic programs showed up in troves to help volunteer at the Ithaca ReUse Center.

In total, 107 volunteers from 13 different teams showed up to the ReUse Center and provided two and a half hours of work, amounting to 267 hours or seven and a half weeks of full-time work. Volunteers processed thousands of pairs of shoes and hundreds of pieces of clothing, shelved several cart loads of household goods, deep-cleaned areas of the storefront, and sorted various hardware items.

Among the programs that had representatives volunteer included the equestrian, fencing, football, golf, softball, men's and women's squash, women's soccer, women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, volleyball, and wrestling programs.

"We here at ReUse are so proud and grateful for the ways that Cornell Athletics have shown up for us, Ithaca, and our greater community, by offering service and giving the youth of today a chance to partner with ReUse to work towards a just, resilient, and waste-free world," the center wrote in a thank-you letter to all of the volunteers from Cornell.
