Beyond the Box Score: The Harvard Game

ITHACA, N.Y. - Go beyond the box score for Cornell's 34-10 loss at nationally-ranked Harvard Friday night in Cambridge. 
 

Team Notes

• The Big Red sports a 313-257-14 (.548) record all-time in the month of October.

• Cornell has not won in Cambridge since Oct. 7, 2000, when it defeated Harvard 29-28 - after trailing 28-0 at halftime, its biggest rally for a win in school history.

• The Big Red fell to 15-56-2 (.216) all-time against ranked opponents.

• Cornell is now 2-11 all-time in games played on a Friday and 62-56-4 (.525) on non-Saturday contests.

• When opponents score 30 points, Cornell is now 21-207 (.092) dating back to 1887.

• The Big Red is 10-23 (.303) all-time in night games, including 0-2 this season (joining 2002, 2006, 2007, 2015 and 2021 as the only seasons with multiple night games).

• Cornell's first night game was played against Navy on Oct. 2, 1943, a 7 p.m. kickoff at Baltimore's Municipal Stadium.

• Cornell is now 3-8 all-time in games played on the ESPN family of networks, including a perfect 3-0 in games played on the flagship EPSN channel.

Individual Notes

• Junior Braylon Howard had four pass breakups in the contest, tied for the second-most in a game in school history - a mark that has been hit 12 times previously. The school record is six by Aaron VanderKaay at Penn on Nov. 22, 1997.

• Senior Johntu Reed had a career-best 45 receiving yards on four catches.

• Freshman Ja'von Broussard earned his first career start and posted a career-best four catches.

• Broussard has multiple catches in all four career games.

• Sophomore Jordan Triplett had his first three career carries go for 13 yards.

• Junior Johnny Williamson's interception was the second of his career and the first of Harvard's Jaden Craig this season (88 passing attempts) and first since a second quart pick in the 2024 season finale against Yale (115 total attempts).

• Williamson's 27-yard interception return was the Big Red's longest since Tyler Gibson took an errant pass back 28 yards against Dartmouth on Nov. 16, 2024.

• Junior tight end Ryder Kurtz surpassed 50 career receptions (53) with four catches against Harvard.

• Senior Doryn Smith had four catches for 23 yards, upping his career totals to 81 receptions (30th all-time at Cornell) for 917 yards (33rd all-time at Cornell).

• Smith is now just 83 yards from becoming the 28th player in Cornell history to surpass 1,000 career receiving yards.

• Senior Damon Barnes posted a game-high 12 tackles, his third career double figure game and one shy of his career high.

• Barnes upped his career tackles total to 129, moving up to No. 87 on the school's all-time list.

• Senior Joey Cheshire notched a career-best 11 tackles, his third double figure tackle game in his last five contests.

• He ended the night with 97 career stops and is three away from becoming the 141st player at Cornell to reach 100 in a career.

• Freshman Jonathan Roost scored his first career point on a third quarter PAT and later booted a 25-yard field goal - the first of his career.
