No. 6 Princeton Earns 4-0 Shutout Win Over Field Hockey

PRINCETON, N.J. -- No. 6 Princeton scored in every quarter and limited Cornell to one shot on goal in a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon at Bedford Field. The Tigers improved to 9-3 (4-1) and clinched a spot in the upcoming Ivy League Tournament, while the BIg Red slipped to 9-3 (2-3) Ivy.

Senior Jane McNally made six saves in goal for the Big Red, who saw their two-game win streak snapped against one of the nation's stingiest defensive teams. The Tigers built a 2-0 halftime lead and added insurance goals in each of the final two periods to secure the win.

Princeton's Beth Yeager opened the scoring just 2:46 into the match off a penalty corner, and Caitlin Thompson doubled the margin midway through the second quarter with a tip-in at the far post. Anna Faulstich pushed the advantage to 3-0 early in the third off a rebound, and Pru Lindsey converted a penalty stroke with under four minutes to play to close the scoring.

Cornell generated eight shots and earned six penalty corners in the final quarter but couldn't break through against goalkeeper Olivia Caponiti, who made a save on the only shot that got through to her to earn the shutout.

• This will be the first meeting between the teams since UNC captured a 6-1 triumph over the Big Red on Sept. 2, 2012 in Ithaca.
