Second-Half Surge Pushes Mansfield Past Sprint Football, 27–13

MANSFIELD, Pa. -- Mansfield used a steady ground game and timely defense to pull away from Cornell, 27-13, in a Collegiate Sprint Football League matchup on Saturday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Field. The Mountaineers improved to 4-1 (2-0 CSFL), while the Big Red dropped to 0-5 (0-3 CSFL).

Cornell hung close through the first half, trailing just 7-3 at the break after a 31-yard field goal by Sumner Roberts. Roberts added another from 24 yards early in the third quarter to make it 7-6 before the Mountaineers extended their lead with a pair of quick touchdowns - a 17-yard rush and a 31-yard pass from Marcus Quaker to Matt Machmer - to make it 20–6 heading to the fourth. Andrew Lay hauled in a 3-yard scoring pass from Stefano Luis late in the final period to cap the Big Red's scoring.

Luis completed 23-of-33 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, while Leo Madera caught seven passes for 112 yards. Jason Milo led Cornell's defense with 16 tackles, and Dylan Leaird added 13.
