Beyond the Box Score: The Colgate Game

ITHACA, N.Y. – Go beyond the box score of Cornell football's 41-21 loss to Colgate at Schoellkopf Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 4.
 
TEAM NOTES
• With the win, Colgate took a 52-51-3 lead in the all-time series after its third straight victory against the Big Red.
• Cornell's record on Homecoming fell to 50-42-6 (.541), while its home opener mark dropped to 95-37-5 (.712).
• The Big Red sports a 313-256-14 (.549) record all-time in the month of October.
• The team's 233 rushing yards were the most without having an individual 100-yard rusher in a game since also posting 233 yards against Harvard on Oct. 7, 2017 (Chris Walker was high rusher with 93 yards).
• The Big Red allowed a lone sack against Colgate, the 14th time in the past 18 games it has allowed one or fewer.
 
 INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• With his 64 receiving yards, senior Doryn Smith surpassed 1,000 career all-purpose yardage (1,016 yards) - becoming the 95th player in school history to reach that mark.
• Sophomore running back Ricardo Lagares Jr. posted career bests in rushing attempts (11) and yards (67) in his second varsity game.
• Junior Garrett Bass-Sulpizio became the first Big Red quarterback to post 200+ passing yards and 75+ rushing yards in the same game off the bench since Stephen Liuzza did so at Dartmouth on Nov. 3, 2007 (292 passing yards, 131 rushing yards).
• Bass-Sulpizio also became the first Big Red player with a passing and rushing touchdown in the same game off the bench since Jameson Wang did so against Brown on Oct. 23, 2021 against Brown.
• Senior Robert Tucker III scored his fifth career touchdown (fourth rushing) and his first of 2025.
• Junior Brendan Lee ran for a two-point conversion, the first for the Big Red since Davon Kiser against Penn in 2023. It was the seventh successful rushing two-point conversion by a Big Red player this century.
• Freshman Ja'von Broussard had his first career rush and caught three passes for 37 yards - both career highs.
• With his five catches for 19 yards, senior wide receiver Parker Woodring surpassed 500 career receiving yards (518) and 60 receptions (61).
• Senior Damon Barnes posted seven tackles, giving him 117 for his career. He is three tackles shy of joining the top 100 all-time at Cornell.
