ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 10-ranked Cornell men's squash team will open a three-match homestand Wednesday afternoon when it welcomes No. 5-ranked Trinity to the Belkin Squash Courts.
First matches are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Match action will be streamed for free on Stretch Internet.
LAST TIME OUT
Cornell had a successful season-opening road trip over the weekend with a pair of victories in New England. The Big Red defeated No. 17 Middlebury 6-3 on Saturday before securing a convincing 7-2 victory over No. 12 Williams on Sunday afternoon at the Simon Squash Center.
Against Middlebury, freshmen Aly Ezzat (No. 2) and Vedant Chheda (No. 9) each registered three-game victories for the Big Red. Sophomore Youssef Sarhan (No. 1) and freshman Edward Thng (No. 4) each had four-game victories, while junior Arnav Tevatia (No. 3) and sophomore Vivaan Shah (No. 8) secured five-game triumphs.
The win over Williams on Sunday improved Cornell to 2-0 on the season, marking the fourth consecutive year the Big Red have opened with two straight victories.
SCOUTING TRINITY
Trinity enters Wednesday's match as the No. 5-ranked team in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings. The Bantams bring back 11 returners from last year's squad and are coming off a successful opening weekend of New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play, defeating No. 12 Williams 7-2 on Saturday before shutting out No. 11 Tufts on Sunday in the program's first-ever match at the brand-new Kovas Squash Center.
Seniors Joachim Chuah and Benedek Takacs lead the Bantams at the top of the ladder. Both players earned First Team All-NESCAC honors last season, with Chuah capturing NESCAC Player of the Year after posting an 18-3 overall record. Chuah advanced to the semifinals of the CSA Individual Championships last January.
SERIES HISTORY WITH TRINITY
Trinity holds a commanding 32-4 edge in the all-time series against Cornell, which includes winning each of the last 26 meetings.
The Big Red's last win over the Bantams came on Feb. 9, 1991, in Hanover, N.H. Cornell is 0-9 in home matches against Trinity, who won last year's meeting, 8-1, in Hartford, Conn.
