ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 20-ranked Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Lafayette Leopards 4-0 on Thursday night at Berman Field. Cornell will advance to the second round of the 2025 College Cup for the second year in a row, where it will meet the UConn Huskies on Sunday afternoon from Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

Adam Schaban (two) scored Big Red goals in the game.

Westin Carnevale, Zapata, and Miller were credited with assists in the contest.
John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer, was pleased with the effort of his team against Lafayette. "I thought we played really well today. We did a good job moving the ball around the field and ended up generating a number of good chances. The four goals were all taken very well.", Smith mentioned.
Cornell's speed and pace was evident as the Big Red began the game on the right foot, generating a couple of strong chances toward Lafayette's net early in the contest. Zapata got the scoring started in the seventh minute of the contest on a feed from Kolbl to give Cornell a quick 1-0 lead.
Miller added to Cornell's count, giving the Big Red a 2-0 lead in the 51st minute. Six minutes later, Schaban registered his first goal of the night to extend the Big Red's advantage to 3-0 over the Leopards. In the 68th minute, Schaban added another to help Cornell put the game far out of reach and claim a 4-0 victory in the opening round of the College Cup.
Ryan Friedberg finished the game unscathed and collected his 10th shutout of the season. Lafayette net-minder Eric Axtman was faced with 10 Big Red shots, stopping six, but allowing four to get by him. The Leopards also managed a team save in the 67th minute on a point-blank chance from
Daniel Samways.
