Beyond the Box Score: The Columbia Game

ITHACA, N.Y. - Go "Beyond the Box Score" for Cornell football's loss to Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 22. 

TEAM NOTES
• With the loss, Cornell's all-time record now stands at 663-567-34.
• Columbia cut into the Big Red's lead int he all-time series, which now sits at 66-43-3.
• With 112 games played, the Cornell-Columbia rivalry is the 14th-most played in FCS football.
• Since 2010 when the game began being played for the Empire State Bowl, Columbia has a 9-6 advantage.
• The Big Red holds a 234-233-15 record in the month of November.
• Cornell fell to 455-240-21 all-time at home, including 311-209-15 at Schoellkopf Field.
• Three different players recorded a punt against Columbia (Caden Lesiewicz, Garrett Bass-Sulpizio and Will Buck), the first time that happened in a game since Oct. 10, 1987 when Tom Kobin, Dave Dase and Aaron Sumida each punted against Harvard.
• A total of 17 different players caught at least one pass this season, with freshman Xavier Bowman hauling in two passes for 25 yards against Columbia to complete the list.
• Three different place-kickers (Alan Zhao, Jonathan Roost and Caden Lesiewicz) combined to make 9-of-11 field goals on the season with each making at least two.
• The team's 18 rushing touchdowns were the most by a Big Red team since the 2007 squad found the end zone 21 times on the ground.
 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• With 10 tackles against Columbia, senior Damon Barnes ran his career total to 177, good for 40th all-time at Cornell.
• Barnes posted his third double-digit tackle effort and second in a row with his 10 stops.
• Senior Joey Cheshire added eight tackles to his career totals and closed his career with 138, good for 78th all-time.
• Senior Michael O'Keefe was credited with four stops and closed his career with 112 - good for 117th.
• O'Keefe picked off his third career pass in the loss and also notched his eighth pass breakup of the year and ninth of his career.
• With his 127 yards from scrimmage, sophomore Jordan Triplett ended the year with 599 total.
• Senior Ben Sahakian's four forced fumbles this season were tied for the third-most in a season in school history, surpassed only by the five forced by Dan McMahon in 1985 and Dave Ahouse in 1996.
• In addition to his 4.5 sacks, senior James Reinbold added eight quarterback hurries - the most in a season in program history (the stat was first tracked in 1999).
• Junior Johnny Williamson's nine tackles for loss in 2025 were the most since Jake Stebbins had 10.0 in 2021.
• Senior Doryn Smith closed his career with 104 catches (No. 16 all-time at Cornell) for 1,102 yards (No. 26 at Cornell).
• Junior Ryder Kurtz led the team in receptions (44) and receiving yards (523), becoming the first Big Red tight end to lead the squad in either since Dan Suren in 1982 (26 receptions, 287 yards).
• Junior Tommy MacPherson's interception was the first of his career.
• Senior James Reinbold was credited with a career-best seven tackles.
