ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell football placed five players on the 2025 All-Ivy League team, as announced by the conference Tuesday, with junior tight end
Ryder Kurtz and a trio of defensive standouts,
Damon Barnes,
James Reinbold, and
Ben Sahakian, earning Second Team honors while senior offensive lineman
Kevin Ma received Honorable Mention recognition.
Kurtz headlined the Big Red's honorees on the offensive side of the ball, earning Second Team accolades at tight end. The junior hauled in 44 receptions for 523 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games, averaging 11.9 yards per catch and 52.3 yards per game, the most among Ivy League tight ends. His four touchdown receptions rank ninth in the conference and included scoring catches against UAlbany, Yale, Bucknell and Princeton. Kurtz also recorded a season-high nine receptions at Dartmouth.
Cornell's defense placed three players on the Second Team, led by fifth-year defensive back
Damon Barnes. Barnes led Cornell and ranked eighth in the Ivy League with 81 total tackles, including 33 solo stops. Barnes posted double-digit tackle performances against Harvard (12), Dartmouth (12), and Columbia (10) while adding 1.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups on the season. He finishes his career with 177 tackles, good for 40th all-time at Cornell.
Senior defensive lineman
James Reinbold earned Second Team honors after a dominant campaign in the trenches. Reinbold tallied 47 total tackles, including a season-best seven in the season finale against Columbia, while leading Cornell with 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also recorded eight quarterback hurries, the most-ever by a Big Red defender since tracking hurries began in 1999. He recovered a fumble during the season.
Senior linebacker
Ben Sahakian rounded out the Big Red's Second Team selections. A force for the Cornell defense, Sahakian registered 35 total tackles while recording seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. The Illinois native's four forced fumbles this season were tied for the third-most in a season in school history, surpassed only by the five forced by Dan McMahon in 1985 and Dave Ahouse in 1996. He ranked first among Ivy League defenders and fourth-most in the nation in forced fumbles, and added six quarterback hurries across 10 games. He forced two fumbles in Cornell's 20-17 win over Princeton on Nov. 1, earning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Ma earned Honorable Mention honors after anchoring Cornell's offensive line from the center position. The senior started all 10 games and helped the Big Red achieve the fourth-best passing offense (221.7 yards per game) and fourth-best rushing offense (145.3 yards per game) in the Ivy League. Cornell also posted the conference's second-best red zone offense, converting 76 percent of its opportunities inside the 20-yard line. Ma also earned Academic All-Ivy Honors. He is an Electrical & Computer Engineering major and a member of Cornell's Athletics 400 Club for achieving a GPA above 4.0 in one semester and has made Dean's List five times.
