Aly Ezzat pushed their opponents in competitive matches, but the No. 10-ranked Cornell men's squash team concluded its fall semester on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to No. 4 Virginia at the McArthur Squash Center.
Cornell (4-2) was unable to capture a match victory as Virginia (7-1) swept all nine positions, though several Big Red players showed fight in their contests.
Ezzat provided the most competitive match of the afternoon at No. 2, battling sophomore Juan Jose Torres to five games. After dropping the first game 3-11, Ezzat responded with an 11-3 second game before falling 6-11 in the third. The freshman won the fourth game 11-8 to force a fifth, but Torres closed out the match with an 11-7 victory.
Sarhan showed resilience at No. 1, winning the opening game against Juan Irisarri, 13-11. Irisarri responded with three straight games, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7, to claim the match.
Senior
Jeh Pandole battled through a four-game match at No. 7 against Maxwell Velazquez. After dropping the first game 5-11, Pandole won the second 15-13 before falling 3-11, 11-13 to conclude the match.
Virginia swept the remaining six matches in straight games. John Paul Tew topped freshman
Edward Thng at No. 3, while sophomore Dylan Moran defeated junior
Arnav Tevatia at No. 4. Krishna Mishra defeated freshman
Daniel King at No. 5, and Nathan Rosenzweig topped sophomore
Roman Bicknell at No. 6. Ewan Harris defeated sophomore
Vivaan Shah at No. 8, and Matthew Dayle topped freshman
Vedant Chheda at No. 9.

Cornell returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 11, when it hosts Drexel at the Belkin Squash Courts at noon. The Big Red are looking to bounce back after dropping a 7-2 decision at Drexel on Jan. 15, 2025. Cornell holds a 5-9 all-time record against the Dragons and is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings. The Big Red's last home victory over Drexel came on Jan. 13, 2024, when Cornell posted a 5-4 win.
