ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell freshman Jaxon Joy has been named Ivy League Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season, earning the honor after a dominant run to the 149-pound title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational this past weekend.
Joy tore through a stacked bracket at one of the nation's premier midseason tournaments, capping his championship performance with back-to-back bonus-point wins. He recorded a fall in the semifinals before pinning Princeton's Eligh Rivera in the finals in just 2:18, securing a statement victory and clinching the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler award.
Head coach Mike Grey praised the freshman's composure and competitive fire on a big stage.
"It was great to see Jaxon compete at such a high level this weekend," Grey said. "I'm excited for him to continue to build momentum as we move toward the second semester and postseason."
Joy's second Ivy weekly honor comes before the midpoint of the season, underscoring his impact in the Big Red lineup and the trajectory he's building in his debut year.
The Big Red return to action in Nashville, TN on December 20th.
