Liang Earns Pair of All-Ivy Honors; #9 Men's Squash Hosts #5 Virginia on Saturday

ITHACA, N.Y. — Ahead of the No. 9-ranked Cornell men's squash team's match against No. 5-ranked Virginia on Saturday at the Belkin Squash Courts, senior Aaron Liang received a pair of All-Ivy honors on Thursday afternoon, it was announced by the Ivy League.
 
Liang was named a Second Team All-Ivy selection after posting a 5-7 overall record exclusively from Cornell's top position on the ladder.
 
Along with his Second Team All-Ivy nod, Liang was Cornell's Academic All-Ivy selection as the senior from Singapore has a cumulative 4.142 grade-point average while majoring in hotel administration.

LAST TIME OUT
The No. 9-ranked Cornell men's squash team (5-7, 1-5 Ivy League) fell just short against No. 8-ranked Columbia (5-6, 2-4 Ivy League) on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 5-4 decision in its Ivy League finale at the Belkin Squash Courts on Senior Day.
 
Senior Aaron Liang (No. 1) and freshmen Youssef Sarhan (No. 3), Roman Bicknell (No. 7), and Vivaan Shah (No. 9) posted the victories for the Big Red. Shah's victory at the No. 9 match was his first appearance within the top nine this season.
 
Liang posted a straight-game victory over Arhan Chandra in the No. 1 match, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8, while Sarhan and Shah prevailed in four games. Bicknell outlasted Varun Fuloria in the No. 7 match, as the side alternated victories throughout the five-game match.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA
Virginia enters this weekend with an 8-3 overall record. The Cavaliers lost the Holley Cup Final of the MASC Championships last Sunday, 5-4, in Lancaster, Pa.
 
Juan Jose Torres Lara leads all Virginia players with his 8-1 record across the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and enters Saturday's match riding a seven-match win streak. Dylan Moran (7-3) and Evan Hajek (7-4) are right behind with seven wins apiece. Karim Elbarbary has a 6-4 mark at the Cavaliers' top position and is victorious in his last five matches.
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH VIRGINIA
Cornell and Virginia will be meeting for the 10th time on Saturday. The Cavaliers own a 7-2 lead in the series, but the Big Red has won two of the last three matches.

In the last meeting between the programs, Virginia posted a 5-4 victory in Philadelphia on Feb. 29 in the opening round of the Potter Cup at the CSA National Team Championships. Veer Chotrani (No. 1), Arnaav Sareen (No. 3), Syan Singh (No. 4), and Shreemann Raghavan (No. 7) were the Big Red players to register victories in the setback.
