Madeira Beach, Fla. – The Cornell softball team opened the season at the Make It Happen Games at ROC Park in Madeira Beach with losses to Ohio State and North Florida on Friday.
Cornell 0, Ohio State 15, 5 innings
The Buckeyes took a 4-0 lead in the first on three home runs. OSU would score 11 of its 15 off long balls.
Emma Harshberger had the solo hit of the game for the Big Red in the second inning.
Kyrie Denny pitched the first three innings with Maxine McCraw coming in for the last two. Each pitcher struck out three batters.
Cornell 1, North Florida 10
Cornell held off North Florida for the first four innings with three strikeouts from freshman pitcher Mila Fiordalisi.
Addison Pressley opened the game with a single up the middle, then stole a base.
In the sixth inning, Reagen London and Pressley received walks, Lauren Holt advanced the runners with a popout followed by a single up the middle from Emma Antich to score the first run of the season.
