#9 Men's Squash Falls Just Short Against #8 Columbia on Senior Day

ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 9-ranked Cornell men's squash team (5-7, 1-5 Ivy League) fell just short against No. 8-ranked Columbia (5-6, 2-4 Ivy League) on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 5-4 decision in its Ivy League finale at the Belkin Squash Courts on Senior Day.

Senior Aaron Liang (No. 1) and freshmen Youssef Sarhan (No. 3), Roman Bicknell (No. 7), and Vivaan Shah (No. 9) posted the victories for the Big Red. Shah's victory at the No. 9 match was his first appearance within the top nine this season.

Liang posted a straight-game victory over Arhan Chandra in the No. 1 match, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8, while Sarhan and Shah each prevailed in four games. Bicknell outlasted Varun Fuloria in the No. 7 match, as the side alternated victories throughout the five-game match.

Columbia's Shaurya Bawa avenged dropping the first two games against senior Arnaav Sareen at the No. 2 match with three straight victories, 2-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6. Zach Nam (No. 3), Imad Athar (No. 4), and Adam Goad (No. 8) all won in four games for the Lions, who snapped its four-match losing streak. Thomas Soltanian (No. 6) was the lone Lions player to post a straight-game victory as he defeated senior Shreeman Raghavan, 11-5, 11-6, 12-10.

No. 7: Roman Bicknell def. Varun Fuloria, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-6.
No. 8: Adam Goad def. Arnav Tevatia, 11-5, 7-11, 11-4, 11-6.
No. 9: Vivaan Shah def. Gonzalo De La Mora, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5.

UP NEXT
Cornell will continue its three-match homestand next Saturday, Feb. 15, when it welcomes No. 5-ranked Virginia (8-2) to the Belkin Squash Courts. First matches are scheduled to begin at noon and will be streamed for free on Stretch Internet.
