PHILADELPHIA — The No. 4-seeded Stanford women's squash team (10-4) narrowly defeated No. 8-seeded Cornell (7-9) by a 5-4 score in the semifinals of the second consolation bracket of the Howe Cup at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomores
Xin Ying Yee (No. 1) and senior
Ananya Dabke (No. 3) posted four-game victories for the Big Red, while junior
Alysa Ali (No. 4) and sophomore
Maya Voloshin (No. 6) outlasted their opponents in five-game thrillers.
Yee avenged her loss in the first game, 11-9, against Riya Navani by conceding only 12 points in the next three games, winning 11-3, 11-6, and 11-3 on her way to her team-leading 12th victory of the season.
Dabke won her first two games against Miriam Cheng, 11-9, 12-10, before taking the fourth game with an 11-9 score after losing the third game, 11-7.
Ali took a 2-1 lead by winning the second and third games with scores of 11-9. After facing an 11-6 setback that brought about the decisive fifth game, Ali edged out Marianna Dardon with a 13-11 victory.
Voloshin and Yuvna Gupta took alternated wins in the first four games before the Big Red sophomore triumphed in the fifth game, 11-8.
