BALTIMORE, Md. – The Cornell softball team (8-6) beat Rhode Island 12-0 in their final game of the UMBC Invitational. The Big Red went 4-0 on the weekend outscoring opponents 44-7 over four games.

Cornell opened the game with a single from Addison Pressley and double from Ella Harrod. Lauren Holt put the first run up with a sacrifice fly to score Pressley. Charlize Cai then singled up the middle to score Harrod and give the Big Red a 2-0 edge in the first inning.
Emma Antich and Pressley found their way on base for Harrod to single in the infield and score Antich. Emma Harshberger scored Pressley with a sacrifice fly. With runners on first and third, Cai singled to left field to extend Cornell's led to 5-0 with a RBI.
Cornell had a big third inning with nine hits resulting in seven runs. Maddie Ullensvang, Sydney Stapf, Pressley, Harshberger, Hailey Pirkey and Antich each singled in the inning alongside a double from Antich. Cai stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run homer for the Big Red to make it 12-0.
Harrod added a single in the fourth, but the Rams held the Big Red before the game was over in the fifth.

The Big Red will have a week break before they open Ivy play at home with a double header on March 22 at 12:30 p.m. against Yale.
