HANOVER, N.H. -- The Cornell men's tennis team picked up its 10th win over ranked opponents this season when it topped No. 73 Dartmouth 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Boss Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 15-6 (5-1 Ivy) with its fifth consecutive win, while the Big Green fell to 13-8 (2-4 Ivy) while suffering its first home loss of the 2024-25 season.
The Big Red will enter its regular season finale at No. 20 Harvard with a chance to finish second in the Ancient Eight with a win, and could even tie for a title if No. 6 Columbia is upset against the Big Green on Easter Sunday.
A tiebreaker win at No. 3 doubles by
Adit Sinha and
Jack McCarthy guaranteed the Big Red the first point, 7-6. Sinha and McCarthy topped the team of Alex Knox-Jones and Dennay Bao 7-3 in the tiebreaker to improve to 5-0 together in conference play. That followed a 6-2 victory at No. 1 by
Rushil Khosla and
Eric Verdes.
The Big Red went up 2-0 when
Nathan Mao made short work of his opponent at No. 5, then pushed its lead to 3-1 with a triumph by
Adit Sinha at No. 2. Sinha, who joined the individual national rankings at No. 101 this week, claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Henry Ren. Dartmouth momentarily climbed within 3-2 before senior All-American
Radu Papoe clinched the win with a straight-sets victory over Carlos Guerrero Alvarez in the top spot on the ladder.
Cornell will play its final regular season contest at Harvard on Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m. at the Beren Tennis Center.
