Softball Drop Series To Brown On the Road

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –Cornell softball (12-11, 4-5 IVY) fell to Brown (17-10, 5-4 Ivy) in the final game of the series 3-2 on the road.

Cornell held Brown to zero runs up until the fifth inning, but the Big Red offense started up way before that.

Hailey Pirkey started it up in the second inning with a single to left field with Lauren Holt on by walk. Maddie Ullensvang then walked to load up the bases before the Bears got out of the inning with a strikeout.

The Big Red continued in the third inning with singles at the beginning of the inning from Addison Pressley, Ella Harrod and Holt. Charlize Cai put the ball in play in the outfield to cause a fielding error on Brown to score the first run of the day.

To add to a big third inning for Big Red, Brown put a runner on second before Harrod grounded a hard-hit ball to shortstop. She looked the runner back, fired to first for the out, and then Emma Harshberger threw to third to catch the runner trying to advance from second, completing the double play.

Each team would go three and out in the fourth inning, but Brown would take the lead in the fifth with a triple, double and single to score two making it 2-1. The Big Red responded with two doubles from Cai and Pirkey to tie it up 2-2 in the middle of the sixth.

The Bears would score one final run off a Moody home run in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for the final time and add three outs to take the series.
