ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's tennis team closed out a weekend sweep with a convincing 6-1 triumph over Brown on Sunday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center. The 40th-ranked Big Red improved to 12-6 (2-1 Ivy) with the win, while the Bears slipped to 18-8 (0-3 Ivy).
Cornell played out all three doubles matches, winning each to claim the point. The nationally-ranked tandem of
Rushil Khosla and
Eric Verdes claimed a win at No. 1 singles, but that was decided only after Cornell had already earned the team point.
Radu Papoe and
Nathan Mao claimed a 6-3 win at No. 2 to clinch doubles moments after
Jack McCarthy and
Adit Sinha won at No. 3 by a 6-4 score.
Despite sitting a pair of starters in singles, including All-American Papoe at No. 1, the Big Red claimed four singles wins in straight sets and a three-setter at No. 6 singles by Khosla to close out the day.
Adit Sinha claimed the first set in a tiebreaker before claiming a 6-2 win in the second to make it a 3-1 edge following Brown's victory at No. 3.
Rodrigo Fernandes closed out the victory with a 6-0, 7-6 triumph at No. 2 to give Cornell its second consecutive Ivy win following its 4-0 sweep of Yale on Saturday.
The Big Red remains at home to face Princeton on Friday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at the Reis Tennis Center before heading to Penn to meet the Quakers on Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
