Senior Day Set For Friday As Pair of Top 50 Opponents Await Men's Tennis This Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The 39th-ranked Cornell men's tennis team will attempt to keep pace at the top of the Ivy League standings with a split home-road weekend when it faces conference co-leader Princeton and nationally-ranked Penn this weekend. The big Red will look to hand No. 30 Princeton its first Ivy loss of the season when the teams meet on Friday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at Reis Tennis Center before hitting the road to face No. 47 Penn on Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers.

Friday's home contest will also serve as Senior Day for five Big Red seniors - Nathan Mao, Jack McCarthy, Maxwell Moadel, Radu Papoe and Adit Sinha.

The Big Red enters the week ranked No. 39 nationally with a 12-6 record - all six of its losses have com to teams in the top 40 of the ITA rankings. Cornell is 2-1 in Ivy League competition, a game behind conference unbeatens Harvard and Princeton. The Big Red owns seven wins over top 75 squads - No. 28 Michigan State, No. 47 Penn, No. 52 Purdue, No. 57 Tulsa, No. 58 Yale, No. 59 Old Dominion and No. 62 St. John's, among its 12 triumphs. Big Red head coach Silviu Tanasiou has a 182-104 record in his 14 seasons on the sidelines for the Big Red. Senior All-American Radu Papoe, ranked No. 52 nationally, is 17-7 on the season to lead Cornell's singles lineup at No. 1, with Adit Sinha going 15-7 while playing in the top three spots on the ladder.

Princeton is 19-6 overall (3-0 Ivy) under head coach Billy Pate and has won three consecutive matches, including 4-3 victories over both Penn and Harvard. Led by nationally-ranked singles players Paul Inchauspe (No. 40) and Top Nidunjianzan (No. 67) and a doubles team featuring Inchauspe and Filippos Astreinidis (No. 41), the Tigers have seven wins over ranked opponents. The teams have split the last 12 meetings down the middle, with the Tigers capturing consecutive victories, including a 4-3 win over the Big Red in February.

Penn, ranked No. 47 in the latest ITA national poll, sports a 19-7 dual match record, including posting an impressive 17-3 mark on its home court. Rich Bonfiglio's Quakers team has been led by Manfredi Graziani at No. 1 singles (14-6), while Shaurya Bharadwaj has a team-best 18-5 record while playing primarily at No. 4. The teams have split the past 10 meetings at 5-5, with Cornell earning consecutive victories, including a 4-1 Big Red triumph in February.
