Beyond the Box Score: The Yale Game

ITHACA, N.Y. - Take a look back into Cornell football's 41-24 loss to Yale on Saturday, Sep. 27 at the Yale Bowl.

TEAM NOTES
• Yale now leads the all-time series 53-32-2, including 35-14 in New Haven, Conn.
• The victory snapped a two-game losing streak to the Big Red.
• The Big Red fell to 111-75-5 (.594) all-time in games played in the month of September.
• Cornell slipped to 30-37-2 (.449) all-time in Ivy League openers, including 8-17 vs. Yale (.320).
• The 3:58 game time is tied for the longest contest in school history in terms of playing time. It matched the 3:58 game at Brown in 2024.
• Cornell had 25 first downs to just 12 for Yale, the first time the Big Red had doubled up an opponent in first downs since registering 30 to Bucknell's 14 on Oct. 19, 2024.
• The team's 96 offensive plays are the most in a single game since running 99 at Dartmouth on Nov. 3, 2007.
• Cornell's defense has allowed fewer than 300 yards of offense in back-to-back games for the first time since opening the 2022 campaign against VMI (266) and Yale (184).
 
PLAYER NOTES
• Junior tight end Ryder Kurtz scored his sixth career touchdown, setting a school record for tight ends when he surpassed the five scored by Matt Robbert '24.
• With his three catches for 25 yards, senior Davon Kiser surpassed 500 career receiving yards (42 catches for 524 yards).
• Senior James Reinbold has sacks in each of his first two contests and a total of 2.5 for the season after entering the year with 0.5.
• Senior wide receiver Doryn Smith surpassed 750 career receiving yards with his seven catches for 82 yards. He ended the game with 70 receptions (No. 38 all-time at Cornell) for 830 yards (No. 37 all-time at Cornell) and four scores.
• Senior Maxwell Van Fleet posted a career-high eight tackles and forced his first career fumble.
• Junior Devin Page ran for his first career touchdown and passed for a career-best two scores.
• Page's 68 total plays are the most by a Big Red player since Jameson Wang '25 was part of 70 plays against Penn on Nov. 9, 2024.
• Junior Brendan Lee had five punt returns for 59 yards, the most returns by a Big Red player since David Jones also returned five kicks against Marist in 2019, and the most punt return yards since Bryan Walters returned seven punts for 73 yards at Yale in 2009.
• With his six points in the contest, junior Alan Zhao upped his career number to 82 kicking points, up to No. 13 all-time at Cornell.
• Both junior Johnny Williamson and senior Ben Sahakian forced their second career fumbles in the contest.
• Junior corner Braylon Howard was credited with his first career interception.
• Howard also recovered a fumble, becoming the first Big Red player to intercept a pass and recover a fumble since Luke Banbury against Bucknell in 2024 and the first corner to do so since Michael Turner against Bucknell in 2013.
