Attiogbe Sets School Record as Big Red Shines at Dr. Sander Scorcher

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Cornell men's track and field team turned in a standout performance at the Dr. Sander Scorcher this weekend at the Armory Track & Field Center, highlighted by a program-record effort from Pierre Attiogbe and a series of top finishes in invitational sections.

Attiogbe delivered the performance of the meet for the Big Red, breaking Cornell's school record in the mile with a time of 3:55.77. Competing in the professional section, Attiogbe placed fifth overall, and his mark ranks 10th nationally in the NCAA this season.

Cornell athletes recorded six performances that rank among the top 10 in program history. In the 800 meters, Tyler Tisinger (1:49.98), Finn Boyle (1:50.53), and Edgar Thielens (1:51.02) all etched their names into the school record book, ranking sixth, seventh, and 10th, respectively. Griffin Mandirola posted the 10th-fastest 3,000-meter time in Cornell history at 8:03.41, while Noah Harman's shot put mark of 17.71 meters ranks fifth all-time.

The Big Red found success across multiple invitational events. Kegan Mancabelli claimed first place in the pole vault, clearing 5.00 meters. Tisinger finished second in the invitational 800 meters, with Boyle close behind in third, while Kameron Coleman (15.02m) and Desmond Whitley (14.97m) placed second and third, respectively, in the triple jump.

Cornell's distance runners were well represented in the invitational 3,000 meters, as Mandirola placed second in 8:03.41 and Aryan Abbaraju finished third at 8:05.86. Peter Northrup added a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.71 meters.

Additional notable performances included Michael Mazero's fourth-place finish in the 400 meters (49.38), Thielens placing fourth in the 800 meters, Ogden Lucsik finishing fourth in the pole vault (4.85m), and Peyton Shute taking fourth in the 3,000 meters at 8:06.37. Northrup also placed sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 18.40 meters.

Cornell returns to action Saturday, Jan. 31, when the Big Red hosts the Cornell Invite inside Barton Hall that will also be their Senior Day.
